The One-Shot Anthology is a yearly writing challenge run by the Toronto Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers group. Each year, talented writers from the Toronto area and abroad come together to write short stories based on a single-word prompt. The catch? They only have 24 hours to write, edit, and submit their work!
Invitation marks my second year participating in this challenge. My submission, The Tea Man, tells the story of a humble tea merchant who is invited to the hall of an emperor obsessed with achieving immortality.

Heretic was my first time participating in this challenge. As a writer who rarely works in short stories – and is intimidated by deadlines – I’m pleased to say it was a success. My submission, Sludge-Swimmer, follows a race of alien arthropods as they struggle with overpopulation, civil unrest, and the spread of a mysterious parasite.
